 «The conductor’s art.»

From a review of a performance of the opera TOSCA at Kristiansund Opera,
written by Magnus Andersson for Klassekampen febr. 14th 2022.

«…. Rønning's conducting captures the psychological depths of the work. It is about shaping the most intricate melodic sequences, and she does so with such life in every joint of her arms. You can see the music all the way to her fingertips, as Rønning conducts without a baton. At times – no, at all times – it is about emphases: about making a quadruplet flow as one beat, or stomping forward on all four beats, or emphasising more often so that the music is short of breath.»

Artistic Research

«… Halldis Rønning proposes a whole new role for the conductor and how this inevitably shapes the roles of the musicians and the audience. Listening is the central part in this process, creating a new dimention in an already established concert-listening-participating process and giving a new perspective for everyone involved in it.
In the video one does not distinct between the audience, the musicians, or Halldis Rønning herself, thus challenging everything the «traditional» concert goers might expect.»
